His Holiness inaugurates Eye Operation theater in Meerut

10 Nov. 2008-ITCO, His Holiness the Dalai Lama today inaugurated New Eye Operation theater of Kalyanam Karoti Hospital in Meerut at around 10.30 am. The program was organized by Kalyanam Karoti under the chairmanship of Shri Kul Bhushan Bakshi ji. Many local dignitaries, guests, patients, Tibetan sweater sellers and a dozen of people from Himalayan regions gathered at the program. His Holiness complimented the works done towards helping the poor people by building this eye hospital and had also emphasized on his three life long commitments of promoting Universal Responsibility, Religious inter-faith and Tibet issues during his speech. Other speakers include Shri Bakshi ji, and Shri K. C. Gupta. Shri Bakshi ji later presented an old Indian coin as a souvenir to His Holiness which was said to be dated around 2,000 years old. After the lunch, His Holiness inaugurated the Walking Plaza in Gandhi Bagh which is within the proximity of Ashiana VIP Guest House where His Holiness rested briefly and had lunch. India-Tibet Coordination Office distributed Tibet-related literatures and leaflets to the people gathered at the program. In 1995, His Holiness the Dalai Lama inaugurated Kalyanam Karoti Hospital and since then Kalyanam Karoti has been organizing Free Eye and Handicapped Camp in and around Meerut almost every year during His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Birthday.
